 A Disparaging Tale
Priory Park Road Widening

A Disparaging Tale

"Save Priory Park, Don't Vote Conservative" the words that struck terror into the veins of every Tory candidate in the borough on Polling Day. Two panicking Tory Councillors in wards at either end of the borough were caught red-handed trespassing and stealing the boards proclaiming the simple message, boards erected with householders permission. Not knowing where to turn next the panic-stricken Tories were like bedazzled rabbits. Then self-preservation and arrogance kicked in, trespass, theft, abuse, intimidation, defacing the signs; you could almost smell the fear.

 Latest News from Karers
Southend A review of the Essex and Southend-on-Sea Replacement Structure Plan is currently being undertaken.

The structure plan for Essex and Southend is a long-term strategic plan for the use and development of land, transport and the protection of the environment which is basically what KARERS is all about. Although our primary objective is to save Fossetts Farm from unnecessary and inappropriate development, we are concerned about other areas that may be detrimentally affected by development.

War protests, misplaced hysteria!

So the peace protesters have had their say, a tiny percentage of the nations population have voiced their opposition to the UN's proposed action against Iraq. Thank heavens that this lot weren't around in 1939. This misplaced hysteria is sadly lacking in reasoned thinking.

Elected Councillors a waste of space?

Elected Councillors a waste of space?

With local elections on the horizon maybe its time for a rethink? Far from being an advocate of electoral reform in general, the system itself seems perfectly fair, it would appear that it is the quality of the candidates that creates the problems. The abysmal turnout nation-wide for the last General/Local Elections (May 2 2002) testifies to this public opinion.

Villa Appalling!

Donie Vanitzian & Stephen Glassman

One of the more bizarre episodes (and there have been quite a few) of my period associated with the Priory Park campaign has been a sequence of (initially) unsolicited telephone calls from a Los Angeles attorney named Donie Vanitzian. She had found the PPPS website and was keen to contact Victor Mishiku of the Covenants Movement.

Donie was keen to contact Victor, and I became interested in what she had to say, because she is a Covenants expert. Whereas the PPPS has been attempting to take advantage of the public-spirited covenants put in place by philanthropists such as R.A. Jones, Donie has a different view: she recognises the value of such covenants in the protection of property and rights, but is a bringer of bad news in that covenants law in the USA is currently being employed for a very different purpose.
